In the early hours of January 1, 2023, an altercation erupted at Bucks Platinum Club, an adult entertainment venue located at 2830 Johnstown Road in Mifflin Township, near Columbus, Ohio. The dispute escalated into gunfire around 2:30 a.m., resulting in the death of 28-year-old Charles Earl Westbrook and injuries to four others. One individual sustained critical injuries, while the remaining three suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation that led to the arrest of two suspects. On January 4, 2023, 24-year-old Charles Foster was apprehended and charged with one count of murder and four counts of felonious assault. Court records indicate that Foster was involved in a physical altercation at the club, during which he allegedly drew a handgun and fired at multiple individuals, including Westbrook. A witness at the scene identified Foster as the shooter.
Subsequently, on January 12, 2023, 29-year-old Jermaine Westbrook was arrested and charged with four counts of felonious assault in connection with the same incident. Investigators, after reviewing cellphone and surveillance footage, determined that Jermaine Westbrook had also engaged in the altercation and discharged a firearm into the crowd, contributing to the injuries sustained by the victims.
The tragic event not only claimed the life of Charles Westbrook but also highlighted concerns regarding safety at such establishments. In April 2023, a lawsuit was filed against Bucks Platinum Club, alleging a pattern of violent incidents at the venue and seeking accountability for the club's purported failure to ensure the safety of its patrons. The legal action aims to secure compensation for the victims' families and to address the broader issue of nightclub-related violence in the Columbus area.
