Inmer Reyes, 25, of Akron, Ohio, was one of three victims in a tragic triple homicide discovered on March 10, 2023. Reyes, along with Victor Varela-Rodriguez, 31, and Domingo Castillo-Reyes, 35, was found bound, gagged, and fatally shot in separate locations in Summit County. Reyes and Varela-Rodriguez were discovered in the woods off Cordova Avenue in Akron, while Castillo-Reyes was found in a ditch in Copley. All three victims were originally from Honduras but were not U.S. citizens.
The investigation revealed that the victims had been kidnapped at gunpoint from a house in Youngstown by two suspects. They were tied up and transported to different locations where they were later shot. A fourth victim, Oscar Meija-Gomez, survived the ordeal by pretending to be dead after being grazed by a bullet to his head. He managed to escape and later provided critical testimony regarding the events.
Police arrested Elias Gudino, 58, after Meija-Gomez identified him as one of the kidnappers during a chance encounter at a gas station. Gudino was charged with aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder related to the killings. During his trial, Meija-Gomez testified that Gudino had threatened to kill them and claimed affiliation with a cartel. Gudino's defense argued that he acted under duress from cartel members; however, this claim did not sway the jury.
In October 2024, Gudino was found guilty on all charges related to the triple homicide. Authorities believe additional individuals may have been involved in the crime and have indicated that further charges could be forthcoming as investigations continue.
