Kem R. Delaney, a 23-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically passed away on April 18, 2013, in Akron, OH. He was a lifetime resident of the community and an active member of the Second Sweet Home Church. Kem was also known for his involvement in the West Akron Little League, where he played as a great pitcher. His untimely death was a result of a quadruple homicide that took place in an Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority-owned townhouse located on Kimlyn Circle off of
Independence Avenue.
The incident occurred during what was described as an escalating robbery. The suspects, Derrick Brantley and DeShannon Haywood, were accused of executing Kem Delaney, along with Michael Roberts, Kiana Welch, and Maria Nash. All victims were shot in the face. The investigation revealed that heroin was a principal factor in the aggravated robbery, as the suspects were involved in drug trafficking. The tragic event was part of a larger issue of heroin flowing freely among Akron's neighborhoods at the time.
