On April 19, 2023, Todd A. Morgan, a 41-year-old assistant professor at Cleveland State University, was found dead in his Hudson, Ohio home. Authorities discovered him during a welfare check after he failed to pick up his daughter from school. Upon arrival, police found Morgan with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso, leading to a ruling of homicide by the Summit County Medical Examiner.
The scene revealed numerous shell casings and a bloody shoe print, while witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a light-colored vehicle leaving the property shortly after the incident.
The investigation quickly focused on Terreionna Paschal, a 32-year-old woman from Cleveland. She was arrested approximately five weeks later on May 27, 2023, in Akron. Initial reports did not disclose any prior relationship between Morgan and Paschal; however, it was revealed that they had met online shortly before the murder and agreed to meet in person on the day of the shooting. Prosecutors stated that the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, with only Paschal knowing the full details of what transpired.
Paschal faced serious charges including aggravated murder and evidence tampering. In September 2024, she pleaded guilty to aggravated murder with a firearm specification as part of a plea deal. During her sentencing, she was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison and placed on Ohio's violent offender registry. Morgan's family expressed their devastation over his loss, emphasizing his role as a dedicated father and beloved member of the community. The case highlighted not only the tragedy of Morgan's death but also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding their brief acquaintance before the fatal encounter.
