Yusef El-Daniels, a 19-year-old male of African American ethnicity, tragically lost his life on August 18, 2011, in Akron, Ohio. The incident occurred on the evening of August 17, 2011, when El-Daniels and his friend, 18-year-old Chevron Mapp, went to Beechwood Drive in search of El-Daniels' missing gun. They confronted Charles L. Williams, 18, who was rumored to have the gun. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, during which Williams began shooting at both El-Daniels and Mapp.
El-Daniels was shot in the back while attempting to flee and succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Following the incident, Williams was arrested and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter with a firearm specification, a felony of the first degree, and Having Weapons While Under Disability, a felony of the third degree. On January 25, 2012, Williams pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Chevron Mapp also faced legal consequences and pleaded guilty to Having Weapons Under Disability and unrelated charges of Aggravated Robbery and Assault, receiving a 10-year prison sentence.
