Michael Thomas Sweeney, a 70-year-old businessman from Cincinnati, Ohio, tragically passed away on May 15, 2023, following a shooting incident that occurred on May 13. Sweeney was a prominent figure in the local automotive industry, being part of the well-known Sweeney family that owns several car dealerships in the Greater Cincinnati area. He was described as a loving father and a kind individual who had a passion for sports.
The incident that led to Sweeney's death began as a confrontation linked to a drug deal. On May 13, he was driving with two women when they stopped at a gas station where one of the women allegedly purchased drugs from Randall Mickey, a 37-year-old man with a criminal history. After the transaction, Mickey believed he had been shorted on the payment and confronted Sweeney at his vehicle. Following this altercation, Mickey pursued Sweeney's vehicle onto Interstate 75 and fired two shots, one of which struck Sweeney in the head, causing him to crash.
Initially reported as a road rage incident, further investigation revealed the true nature of the confrontation. Sweeney was critically injured and succumbed to his wounds two days later in the hospital.
