On May 14, 2023, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Columbus police officers responded to reports of a fight near the intersection of East 1st Avenue and North High Street in the Short North district. As officers approached, they heard gunfire and discovered 21-year-old Arthur Jajuan "Art" Pickens lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was transported to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:07 a.m.
