On July 17, 2023, at approximately 3:58 a.m., Canton police responded to a reported shooting at 423 Gobel Avenue NE. Upon arrival, officers found 32-year-old Kody M. Ingram with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m.
According to a 911 call, Ingram's fiancée reported that he had threatened her and her three children with a gun, stating he would kill them. In self-defense, she shot him.
The Stark County Coroner's Office confirmed Ingram's death resulted from the gunshot wound.
Born on January 1, 1991, in Canton, Ohio, Kody was the son of Kimberly Ingram. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music by his favorite artist, Rod Wave, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bulls. He is survived by his mother, Kimberly (Jonathan) Tharp; brother, Justin Hill; daughter, Amari Alice Faye Ingram; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The incident remains under investigation by Canton police. As of now, no charges have been filed against Ingram's fiancée, as evidence suggests she acted in self-defense. Authorities will review all findings to determine if any legal actions are warranted.
