Douglas C. Adkins, a 67-year-old white male from Canton, Ohio, was fatally shot on December 1, 2023, near his residence in the 1700 block of Cleveland Avenue SW. He succumbed to his injuries on December 5, 2023.
On December 7, 2023, authorities arrested 28-year-old Chabrijuana J. Glenn, an Akron resident, in connection with the shooting. She was charged with murder and held in the Stark County Jail on a $2 million bond.
In May 2024, Glenn pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, and tampering with evidence. As part of a plea agreement, other charges, including aggravated burglary, felonious assault, and robbery, were dismissed. She was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison by Stark County Common Pleas Judge Natalie R. Haupt.
Prosecutors indicated that Glenn was intoxicated at the time of the shooting. Assistant Stark County Prosecutor Kristen Mlinar described the incident as resulting from an unfortunate set of circumstances but did not elaborate on a specific motive.
Douglas C. Adkins was remembered by family and friends as a generous and outgoing individual. His son, Tim Rue, described him as someone who would "give you the shirt off of his own back" and noted his love for animals, fishing, and working on cars.
