On April 7, 2023, 35-year-old Bryson O'Neil Barksdale Sr. was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck inside a residence on Otto Place NE in Canton, Ohio. Officers from the Canton Police Department responded to the scene around 12:30 a.m. The Stark County Coroner's Office pronounced Barksdale dead at the scene.
A frantic 911 call reported that someone had driven by and "shot up" the house, leaving Barksdale "bleeding out."
The caller mentioned that there were children in the home at the time of the shooting. Another nearby resident reported hearing eight gunshots and observed cars speeding past her house.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and there are no identified suspects in connection with Barksdale's death. The Canton Police Department continues to investigate the incident and has urged anyone with information to contact their Detective Bureau or submit anonymous tips through Tip411 or the Stark County Crime Stoppers.
Barksdale was a graduate of Canton McKinley High School and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is remembered for his infectious smile, love for cooking his grandmother's recipes, and deep affection for his children and family. He is survived by his mother, father, stepfather, four children, two brothers, and several aunts, cousins, and friends.
