On the night of July 30, 2023, 18-year-old Tayveion Gregory Murphy was fatally shot in Akron, Ohio. The incident occurred around 10:43 p.m. in the 500 block of Noble Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found Murphy lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.
A 22-year-old woman also sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the incident; her injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Preliminary investigations suggest that an unknown assailant, possibly in a vehicle, opened fire on Murphy and the woman as they arrived at the residence.
Eyewitness accounts from 911 calls described a chaotic scene, with one caller noting, "Someone just got shot outside my house," and mentioning that friends of Murphy returned fire at the assailant. Another caller reported hearing approximately 50 shots, likening the sound to that of a "machine gun." Witnesses also observed the shooter fleeing the scene on foot after exiting a white vehicle.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Murphy's death. The Akron Police Department continues to investigate and has urged anyone with information to contact their Detective Bureau or provide anonymous tips through designated channels.
