Anthony Davis, a 31-year-old Black man and father from Columbus, Ohio, was known to friends as "Ant Man." Those who loved him remembered a man who was strong, smart, funny, and very outspoken. His life was cut short in August 2023, leaving behind a family and community who felt he "didn't deserve this at all."
In the early morning hours of August 12, 2023, police were dispatched to a shooting in southeast Columbus. At approximately 1:44 a.m.
in the 2400 block of Daily Road, they found Anthony Davis suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Due to the severity of his injuries, detectives from the Columbus Homicide Unit were assigned to the case from the beginning. For six days, Davis fought for his life, but he ultimately succumbed to his wounds on August 18, 2023. His death was officially classified as a homicide, and the investigation focused on finding the person responsible.
Authorities quickly identified 26-year-old Ismaiyl Hipps as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. A team of U.S. Marshals and Columbus SWAT officers located and apprehended Hipps without incident on the morning of August 23, 2023. He was subsequently charged with murder in connection with Davis's death. The case proceeded to trial, and on April 15, 2025, a jury found Ismaiyl Hipps guilty of murder. The case is considered solved as of that verdict in April 2025.
