On September 28, 2023, Sharod Andrell Taylor, a 39-year-old resident of Toledo, Ohio, was fatally shot in a parking lot located in the 3400 block of Stickney Avenue. The incident occurred around 6 p.m., and emergency responders found Taylor with at least one gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being discovered.
Following the shooting, law enforcement quickly identified and arrested Cato Hornbeak, a 19-year-old suspect.
Hornbeak was charged with murder and felonious assault, as he was accused of shooting Taylor multiple times, including a critical shot to the chest. Reports indicate that the confrontation leading to the shooting may have stemmed from an argument at a nearby Wendy's restaurant over coffee. Witnesses described the altercation escalating into violence shortly after.
Cato Hornbeak was indicted on October 10, 2023, for his involvement in Taylor's death.
