On January 9, 2024, Gilbert Contera-Ramirez, a 38-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot at the Island Club Apartments. Police responded to a report of gunfire around 10:15 a.m. and discovered Contera-Ramirez inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate arrival of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:57 a.m. Evidence collected included two shell casings found near his body, indicating the violent nature of the incident.
