Jerry Thomas Harper Jr., aged 54, tragically passed away on May 5, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. He was found shot multiple times in the University District, specifically in the 400 block of East 13th Avenue. The Columbus Division of Police responded to reports of a shooting around 8:38 p.m. on May 4, where they discovered Harper with severe gunshot wounds. He was transported to Grant Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at 1:55 a.m. on May 5.
The incident also involved another victim, identified as Derek Miller, a 42-year-old man who was found nearby with gunshot wounds and was listed in critical condition. According to police reports, witnesses at the scene indicated that Harper had allegedly shot Miller before fleeing the area. However, upon police investigation, Harper himself was found with a gunshot wound to the jaw and a firearm with blood on it in his vehicle.
In the aftermath of the shooting, two individuals have been arrested in connection with Harper's death. Brian Richardson, aged 59, and Derek Miller have both been charged with murder. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting and any potential motives behind it.
