On the night of October 30, 2024, Martin Valdivia, a 37-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was fatally shot outside an apartment complex located on the 5600 block of Cabot Cove Drive. The incident occurred shortly after 11:15 PM when multiple calls were made to the police reporting gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Valdivia lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at 11:42 PM.
Following the shooting, police apprehended Jose D. Guzman Castaneda, a 36-year-old man, who was taken into custody without incident near the scene. He has been charged with murder in connection with Valdivia's death. Preliminary investigations indicated that the shooting resulted from an altercation between the two men at the apartment complex. Although a firearm was recovered from the scene, authorities have not confirmed whether it was the weapon used in the shooting.
