On November 9, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Columbus police officers responded to a shooting incident on Fitzroy Drive at Walford Street in northeast Columbus, Ohio. Upon arrival, they found 40-year-old Abdulrahman Mohamed fatally wounded. Medics pronounced Mohamed dead at 8:27 a.m.
The incident also involved another victim who was shot and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Detectives reported that the shooting was captured on camera from multiple angles and witnessed by several people. The Columbus Police Homicide Unit is investigating the case, with Detective M.T. Smith leading the investigation, assisted by Detective O'Connor.
On November 11, 2024, the Columbus police identified 26-year-old Devon R. Ford as the primary suspect in Mohamed's death. According to charging documents, Ford and Mohamed were involved in an argument prior to the shooting. The dispute escalated when Mohamed allegedly called Ford's younger brother names, prompting Ford to pull out a pistol.
A warrant has been issued for Ford's arrest on murder charges in connection with Mohamed's death. As of the latest reports, Ford, who reportedly lives on Fitzroy Drive near the shooting location, remains at large. The Columbus Division of Police has appealed to the public for assistance in locating Ford, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
