On November 13, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Santa Fe, New Mexico, resulting in the deaths of 15-year-old Axel Gonzales and his mother, Carmen Navarrete, 49 years old. The mother and son were victims of a shooting that took place on Monday night.

The incident shocked the local community, particularly affecting students at Capital High School where Axel was a student. In response to this tragedy, Axel's classmates organized a balloon release to honor their friend's memory.
