In a tragic series of events that began with a domestic dispute, Kyle Quintin Dotson, a 34-year-old Black / African American man, was killed in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 17, 2024. The incident, which police believe was an act of retaliation, unfolded in a residence on Helen Belle Drive, near Lamb Boulevard and Washington Avenue.
The events leading to Dotson's death reportedly began three days earlier, on January 14, when he and his wife were involved in an argument.
According to a Metropolitan Police Department arrest warrant, his wife alleged that Dotson had punched her multiple times in the face. The following day, her father, David Coulson Sr., noticed her swollen face during a FaceTime call.
Around midnight on January 17, a group of five individuals arrived at Dotson's home. When Dotson answered the door, he was confronted by David Coulson Sr., his son David Coulson Jr., their respective wives Veronica Nezey and Shaleece Brown, and Brown's cousin, James Knox. All five entered the home and, according to the warrant, Coulson Sr. and Coulson Jr. began to punch and kick Dotson. Dotson's wife told police she attempted to intervene without success. She then witnessed her brother, David Coulson Jr., shoot Dotson multiple times. Three minors were reportedly present in the home at the time of the shooting.
Following the incident, all five individuals who entered the home were arrested. David Coulson Sr., 56, Shaleece Brown, 33, James Knox, 45, and Veronica Nezey, 54, were taken into custody. David Coulson Jr. was apprehended on February 16. Brown was subsequently indicted on multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, child abuse, and discharging a firearm within a structure. Her attorney has stated that she asserts her innocence. An attorney for Coulson Sr. has also stated that he plans to "vigorously defend him."
