In the early morning hours of March 5, 2024, a burst of violence outside a Las Vegas convenience store tragically cut short the life of 29-year-old Summer Lange. A white female, Lange was with another woman, Rona Ah-Foon, and a man when the tranquil night was shattered by gunfire. The trio was standing outside the Pocket Change convenience store, located near Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, when a man on a bicycle rode past and opened fire.
The brazen attack left both Lange and
Ah-Foon, also 29, with fatal injuries. The male companion was struck in the wrist and survived the shooting. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses captured the shocking incident, showing the shooter firing multiple shots without stopping his bicycle before fleeing the scene. The motive for this senseless act of violence appears to have stemmed from a personal dispute the shooter had with the male victim. According to police reports, the suspect accused the man of being involved with his wife. Another report suggested the conflict arose after the suspect's wife allegedly asked the male victim for assistance with illicit activities. Investigators learned that this was not the first time the gunman had targeted the male survivor; he had reportedly shot at him at a bus stop near the same convenience store just four days prior to the deadly assault.
In the wake of the shooting, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identified Jason Robert Manuel as the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. Manuel, who has a prior criminal history including a 2004 conviction in California for murder, aggravated mayhem, and robbery, became the subject of a manhunt. On April 1, 2024, authorities located and apprehended the 43-year-old in California. He was subsequently booked into the Riverside County Jail and awaited extradition to Las Vegas to face two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for the tragic shooting that ended Summer Lange's life.
