On March 12, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded at the 3 Keys apartment complex in North Las Vegas, Nevada, resulting in the death of 52-year-old Africa A. Woods-McGill. The complex, located at 2215 E. Nelson Ave., near Las Vegas Boulevard North and East Carey Avenue, became the scene of a horrific triple homicide.
Woods-McGill was one of three women fatally shot in the incident. The Clark County coroner's office determined her cause of death to be two gunshot wounds to the head.
The other victims were identified as Venus M. Hart, 48, and Tiffany K. Mawhorter, 42. A dog was also killed in the shooting.
The perpetrator of this violent act was identified as Edward Brooks, a 43-year-old man from North Las Vegas. Brooks had an extensive criminal history, including previous charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary, rape, and narcotics offenses. Police responded to 911 calls reporting gunfire at the apartment complex around 3:15 p.m. on March 12.
When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered Brooks walking towards them, armed with a gun. Despite multiple commands to drop his weapon, Brooks continued to advance. Following the shooting of Brooks, police discovered the bodies of the three women and the dog in two nearby apartments. The motive behind the killings remains under investigation.
