In the early morning hours of October 19, 2024, the life of 15-year-old Jeffry Garcia, a Hispanic/Latino male, was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence in northeast Las Vegas. The night began with the sounds of a loud house party in the 3800 block of Idlewood Avenue, which had prompted calls to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department just after midnight.
Before officers could arrive to address the noise complaints, the situation escalated dramatically as further reports came in of gunshots ringing through the neighborhood.
Upon their arrival, police officers discovered a grim scene. Jeffry Garcia was found near a house, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the immediate response from medical personnel, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound.
Homicide detectives investigating the case believe that the shooting occurred as Jeffry was walking away from the party. It is thought that the occupants of a vehicle, who had also been at the party, opened fire on him before speeding off into the night. The vehicle and the suspects within it vanished before law enforcement arrived. As of now, the suspects are still at large, and the investigation into Jeffry's death remains ongoing. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact the LVMPD Homicide Section or Crime Stoppers. The community has been left shaken by the violent death of such a young individual, prompting concerns about youth and gun violence in the area.
