In the early morning hours of May 13, 2023, the life of 35-year-old Michael Julius Martin, a Black / African American man, was tragically cut short in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The fatal incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. in the city's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood, where a house party was underway in the 1000 block of Pacific Street.
Responding to 911 calls about a shooting, Saint Paul police officers arrived to what they described as a "chaotic scene."
Emotions were running high among the approximately 50 people present, both inside and outside the residence. Inside the house, officers discovered Michael Martin suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders from the Fire Department provided immediate medical attention and transported Martin to Regions Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead. His death marked the 14th homicide in Saint Paul for the year 2023. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made. Police have not publicly identified any suspects and have appealed to the community for any information regarding the incident.
