On October 14, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Minneapolis police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the alley behind the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Khadar Osman Barre, a resident of Edina, unconscious with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Despite immediate CPR efforts, Barre was pronounced dead at the scene around 2 a.m.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that Barre's death was a homicide resulting
from the gunshot wound. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Minneapolis Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Barre's death adds to the ongoing concerns about gun violence in Minneapolis. Community members and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation and help bring justice for Barre and his family.
