On October 14, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Minneapolis police officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the alley behind the 2500 block of 17th Avenue South. Upon arrival, they discovered 30-year-old Khadar Osman Barre, a resident of Edina, unconscious with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Despite immediate CPR efforts, Barre was pronounced dead at the scene around 2 a.m.
