In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 21, 2023, the life of 49-year-old Omar Lamont Brown, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Police responded to a ShotSpotter notification just after 5:30 a.m. and discovered Brown unresponsive in an alley on the 3500 block of Penn Avenue North. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers and paramedics at the scene immediately began performing life-saving measures before he was
rushed to the emergency room of North Memorial Health Hospital. Despite their efforts, Omar Lamont Brown succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:12 a.m. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the abdomen and officially ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
The Minneapolis Police Department's homicide division is actively investigating the shooting. As of late October 2023, there have been no arrests made in connection with the death of Omar Lamont Brown.
