On January 20, 2011, 26-year-old Jagama Beyene, an Ethiopian film producer who was working as a store clerk to support his income, was fatally shot during a robbery at a Citgo gas station in Atlanta, Georgia. The robbery took place around 3 a.m. at the Glenwood Food Mart on Glenwood Avenue. According to witnesses, three men entered the store, and during the robbery, Beyene was shot in the stomach after he opened a screen glass window above the counter.
