Earnest Byrd, Jr., a 58-year-old man from Atlanta, Georgia, died on June 11, 2024, as a result of a violent incident involving a hijacked bus. The incident occurred when Byrd confronted 39-year-old Joseph Grier on a Gwinnett County Transit bus. Grier, who was described as struggling with mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, hijacked the bus after the confrontation. During this confrontation, Byrd was shot and killed with his own gun.
