On March 18, 2023, 14-year-old Kamarjay "KJ" Shaw of Lawrence, Kansas, was fatally shot near East 13th Street and Maple Lane. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities believe that Shaw and the alleged shooter, a 17-year-old male, were acquainted prior to the incident.
