Jesus Cachu Melgoza, a 28-year-old resident of Lamont, California, was found dead on June 28, 2021, along Weedpatch Highway in Bakersfield. The Kern County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting around 4 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Melgoza with trauma to his body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation quickly classified his death as a homicide due to the nature of his injuries, which included gunshot wounds.
