Maurice Wright, a 28-year-old resident of Bakersfield, California, was tragically killed on October 7, 2017. The incident occurred on South King Street, where Wright and a woman were found with gunshot wounds. Wright was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. In April 2024, a significant breakthrough occurred when Jemiah Dawson, 28, was
arrested in connection with Wright's murder. Dawson, who was already in custody for an unrelated incident, was questioned about the 2017 shooting. During the interrogation, Dawson admitted to being one of the three shooters involved in the incident. Surveillance footage from the night of the murder corroborated his confession, showing three individuals opening fire and then fleeing the scene in a dark blue 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This vehicle was later found abandoned and processed for forensic evidence, which further implicated Dawson and his accomplices.
The investigation revealed that the shooting was gang-related, and Dawson was charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, and participating in a criminal street gang. The Bakersfield Police Department continued to pursue leads, and in July 2024, another suspect, Trevon Lee Foreman, was arrested. Foreman, who was already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for a previous murder, was charged with Wright's murder, conspiracy, and gang participation. His arraignment was scheduled for later that month.
