A 40-year-old Black/African American woman, Addriane Kenney, was tragically killed in a shooting in Wichita, Kansas, on September 21, 2023. The incident occurred in the 1100 block of South Terrace. Officers from the Wichita Police Department were dispatched to the location following reports of a shooting and discovered Kenney inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate medical attention provided by first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide led to the swift arrest of a suspect. On September 22, 2023, authorities took 42-year-old Gregory Johnson into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The relationship between Kenney and Johnson was determined to be that of a boyfriend and girlfriend. The investigation suggested that a verbal argument between the two escalated, culminating in Johnson allegedly firing a single shot that struck Kenney.
Following his arrest, Gregory Johnson was formally charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a firearm by a felon. The case against him is proceeding through the criminal justice system.
