On June 16, 2024, 28-year-old Aron Lara of Wichita, Kansas, was fatally shot during a Father's Day barbecue in the 1900 block of North Jackson Street. The incident began with a verbal altercation between Lara and 33-year-old Eric Gonzalez-Gutierrez. After the dispute, Gonzalez-Gutierrez allegedly retrieved a rifle from his home and shot Lara multiple times. Lara was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
