On the evening of September 22, 2024, in a northeast Wichita apartment complex, a dispute between neighbors escalated into a fatal encounter. Daryl Clark, a 38-year-old man, was shot and killed during the altercation. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. at the Inwood Crossing Apartments located near K-96 and Rock Road.
According to police, an argument broke out between Clark and his neighbor, 35-year-old Mercedes Muldrew.
The verbal disagreement reportedly turned physical when Clark allegedly assaulted Muldrew. The situation took a deadly turn when Muldrew produced a handgun and fired a single shot, striking Clark in the chest. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Clark was rushed to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:22 p.m.
Responding officers took Muldrew into custody at the apartment complex without any further incident. She was subsequently booked into the Sedgwick County Jail in the early hours of the following Monday. Muldrew has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Daryl Clark's death. While it is known that both Clark and Muldrew were residents of the same apartment complex, the specific nature of their relationship remains unclear. Muldrew is being held on a bond of $750,000 as the investigation into the shooting continues.
