In the afternoon hours of January 25, 2023, a resident of both New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Lazaar Alexis, a 37-year-old Black male, was fatally wounded by gunfire in the city he called home. The incident that claimed his life unfolded in the Lower 9th Ward, a community still rebuilding from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but despite their efforts, Alexis succumbed to his injuries.
