In the early morning hours of February 20, 2023, the life of 20-year-old Jatravian Chevelier, a male resident of St. Martin, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Lafayette Police were called to the 1000 block of Louisiana Avenue around 1:50 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Chevelier inside a vehicle in a parking lot at 1111 Mudd Avenue, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders rendered aid at the scene before he was transported to a
local hospital for treatment. Despite their efforts, Chevelier succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Lafayette Police Department's homicide investigators began working to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
Less than a year prior to his death, in June 2022, Chevelier had been arrested in connection with a significant drug bust. He, along with two other men, faced charges related to drug distribution and firearms possession after law enforcement seized a substantial amount of marijuana, cash, and several firearms.
As of now, the investigation into Jatravian Chevelier's murder remains ongoing. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The Lafayette Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact them or Lafayette Crime Stoppers.
