In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 2, 2023, the quiet of Garyville, Louisiana, was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of 19-year-old Javant Dunn. A male resident of Greensburg, Louisiana, Dunn was discovered unresponsive on the ground outside a residence in the 200 block of South Emilie Street at approximately 3:30 a.m. Deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found that Dunn had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Tragically, his injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office.
The investigation into the death of Javant Dunn initially began with no known motive or suspects. However, in the months that followed, law enforcement officials made a series of arrests. The investigation led to the apprehension of five juvenile suspects. Among those taken into custody were two brothers from LaPlace, aged 13 and 15. The other individuals arrested included two 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old girl.
According to authorities, the five juveniles were in a car when they opened fire, striking Dunn multiple times as he stood outside the home on Emilie Street. While arrests have been made, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. The two teenage brothers arrested were each being held on a five hundred thousand dollar bond. It has been reported that the juveniles involved in the case will be tried as adults for their alleged roles in the murder of Javant Dunn.
