Nickolas Plater was a 28-year-old Black man living in Shreveport, Louisiana. His life was cut short in the spring of 2023, leaving behind questions and a pending court case.
On the evening of April 25, 2023, Shreveport police officers responded to a call at a home in the 2900 block of Bolch Street. Inside, they discovered Nickolas Plater suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite any medical aid rendered, Mr. Plater was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner’s office later formally released his identity to the public.
The initial investigation immediately focused on what was described as a domestic altercation. Present at the home was Mr. Plater’s wife, 22-year-old Shraine Plater. She was taken into custody by police for questioning as they began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
After processing the scene and conducting further interviews, detectives determined they had sufficient evidence to move forward with an arrest. By early May, Shraine Plater was formally arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with her husband’s death.
As of May 2023, the case against Shraine Plater was proceeding through the legal system.
