On a Sunday evening in Denham Springs, Louisiana, a violent encounter tragically cut short the life of 39-year-old Daniel Everett DeBernardi. The incident unfolded around 6:45 p.m. on May 20, 2023, at a residence on Rushing Road. During the altercation, DeBernardi, a male, sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to his torso.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and DeBernardi was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries the following day. The Denham Springs Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly shooting.
As a result of their investigation, authorities arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide. Chase Nicholas Whalen, a 32-year-old resident of Denham Springs, was taken into custody and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. Whalen has been charged with one count of manslaughter in the death of Daniel DeBernardi.
