In the summer of 2023, the life of 18-year-old Joshua Wayne Cobb was tragically cut short in Lafayette, Louisiana. On the evening of July 9th, gun violence claimed the young man, leaving a community to mourn and authorities to piece together the events that led to his untimely death. Born on August 14, 2004, to Jonathon and Maranda Cobb, Joshua was remembered as a beloved son, brother, and friend with a kind and generous soul and a deep love for his family and the outdoors.

investigation into Cobb's death quickly focused on a suspect. Sean Traven Sampey, a 21-year-old from Lafayette, was identified in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on Vaucluse Drive. In a significant development, Sampey voluntarily surrendered to the Lafayette Police Department. Following his surrender, he was arrested and faced the serious charge of second-degree murder for his alleged role in Joshua Cobb's death.
The loss of Joshua was a profound blow to his family, including his parents and brothers, Zackary and Devin Cobb, and Johnny Shelton.
