On a Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2023, 67-year-old Barry Roussel of Ponchatoula, a male, was shot and killed at the Albany Tourist Information Center off Interstate 12. The incident, which occurred around 4 p.m., stemmed from a domestic-related dispute. Roussel died at the scene from his injuries.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, working jointly with the Albany Police Department, investigated the shooting.
Their investigation led to the immediate arrest of 68-year-old Edward Paul Louque of Walker. He was taken into custody and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a charge of second-degree murder. Prosecutors stated that Roussel and Louque had been friends who had a falling out.
In July 2025, a Livingston Parish jury convicted Edward Louque, then 70, in Roussel's shooting death. The jury deliberated for about an hour before reaching a guilty verdict. On August 4, 2025, Louque was sentenced to a mandatory term of life in prison. During the sentencing, Roussel's daughter addressed Louque, expressing her pain and noting she had not seen any remorse from him for his actions.
