In the late summer of 2023, the community of Kaplan, Louisiana, was unsettled by the violent death of 32-year-old Christopher Billy Vidalier. On the evening of Monday, August 7th, Vidalier was found shot on a porch in the 500 block of Samy Kershaw Road. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was rushed to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injury.
The incident marked the first homicide in Kaplan since 2020, leaving friends and family to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss.
The investigation into Vidalier's death quickly focused on a suspect, identified as 23-year-old LaQuiondra St. Julien. According to reports, an ongoing feud between St. Julien and Vidalier escalated into a fatal argument. During the confrontation, St. Julien brandished a 9mm pistol and fired the single shot that would prove fatal for Vidalier. An eyewitness to the event identified St. Julien to the authorities, leading to her swift arrest by the Kaplan Police Department. She was initially charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
In October 2024, the legal proceedings against LaQuiondra St. Julien concluded in a Vermilion Parish courtroom. After hearing the evidence presented, a jury found her guilty of manslaughter, a lesser charge than the initial second-degree murder accusation. With this conviction, the young woman from Kaplan now faces a potential sentence of up to 40 years in prison for her role in the death of Christopher Vidalier, bringing a measure of closure to a case that had cast a shadow over the small Louisiana city.
