On October 23, 2023, a shooting at a trailer off Highway 27 in Carlyss, Louisiana, led to the death of 43-year-old Brittany Ann Prather. A White female, Prather was discovered at the scene with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries on October 26, 2023. Another individual, 39-year-old Cole A.
Sandifer, was also found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jonathan J. Waite of Sulphur, Louisiana, was apprehended near the location of the shooting. He was initially charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and illegal use of a firearm. Following Prather's death, Waite's charges were upgraded to two counts of second-degree murder. A bond was set at $650,000.
Born on August 15, 1980, at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia, Brittany Ann Prather was known as the 'Peacemaker' of her family. She was remembered for her humor and vibrant personality. She is survived by her parents, three siblings, and five children. Cole Anthony Sandifer was her longtime companion. A memorial service for Brittany was held on November 6, 2023, at the Jesus Worship Center in Jennings, Louisiana.
