On New Year's Day in Sulphur, Louisiana, a family tragedy unfolded, resulting in the death of one-year-old Acelynn Moss. The young girl, a female, died on January 1, 2026, from a fatal gunshot wound. The incident occurred at a residence on Quelqueshue Street, where officers responded to a shooting report in the evening.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered that Acelynn had been shot and killed.
The child's mother, 28-year-old Kristin Bass, was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody at the home. She was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Bass was later booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail, with her bond set at $10 million.
The victim's father, Bradley Moss, was present in another part of the house when he heard a loud noise. He reported running into the room to find his daughter shot and Bass allegedly holding a gun. The couple's other child, a two-year-old girl, was also in the room at the time. Moss recounted that Bass told him she shot Acelynn to "send her to God" and indicated she might harm their older daughter as well. Following the incident, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services took custody of the surviving child. The case remains under investigation.
