In the winter of 2024, a life was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Kwame Patrick Paul, a 34-year-old Black male, was found deceased on Saturday, January 13, 2024. The grim discovery was made inside a hotel room at the LaQuinta Inn & Suites located on Rieger Road, prompting an immediate investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the scene around 11 a.m.
after receiving a report of a deceased person.
The nature of Paul's death was quickly determined to be a result of gun violence, and the case was officially ruled a homicide. Investigators began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts soon focused on a person of interest, leading to a significant development in the case. With the assistance of the Gonzales Police Department, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office identified and located a suspect.
Less than a week after the discovery of Paul's body, an arrest was made. Obahtier Miller, 42 years old, was taken into custody in connection with the death. Miller was subsequently booked on the charge of second-degree murder. Funeral services for Kwame Patrick Paul were held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Church of God in Baton Rouge, with interment following at Southern Memorial Gardens.
