In the early morning hours of January 14, 2024, the life of 26-year-old Hortencia Demming was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. At approximately 2:00 a.m., Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to a vacant lot in the 800 block of Wall Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Demming suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso.
She was swiftly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Investigators from the Violent Crimes unit worked diligently through the night and into the following day, meticulously combing through evidence and conducting interviews with witnesses. Their investigation led them to identify Rictaveon Perry as the suspected shooter in what they believe was a violent culmination of an ongoing dispute between Perry and Demming.
The day after the fatal shooting, on January 15, 2024, Rictaveon Perry was brought to the police station by his family members. They had learned through a social media post that he was wanted in connection with the murder. Following an interview with detectives, Perry was taken into custody and booked into the City Jail. He faced a warrant for second-degree murder, for which no bond was set, as well as an active fugitive warrant for possession of marijuana.
