In the heart of a Baton Rouge neighborhood, a burst of violence on February 8, 2024, claimed the life of 18-year-old Tyre Everson, a Black male. The fatal encounter unfolded just before noon in the 3700 block of Shelly Street, where Everson was found on the porch of a residence, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The shooting was part of a particularly violent 16-hour period in Baton Rouge, during which nine people were shot in six
separate incidents, with two resulting in fatalities. In the immediate aftermath of Everson's death, details were scarce, and the Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Division began an investigation, seeking to uncover the motive and identify any suspects.
Weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made. On an unspecified date, police apprehended 18-year-old Marvin Lean in connection with Everson's death. Lean was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. Authorities have indicated that other individuals may have been involved in the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In a separate development, another man, Brayshawn Brown, was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and armed robbery for a fatal shooting that also occurred on Shelly Street on February 8. However, it was not immediately made clear if Brown's charges were directly related to the death of Tyre Everson.
