On a tragic Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2024, the life of 39-year-old April Conley Rollins was cut short in a fatal shooting in Broussard, Louisiana. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Longleaf Drive, where Broussard Police were dispatched around 2:40 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Rollins with gunshot wounds.
She was quickly transported to a local hospital, but tragically, she was later pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, a suspect identified as 44-year-old Ronnie Simon surrendered to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office. Simon was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. The Broussard Police Department has urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward to aid in their ongoing investigation.
April Conley Rollins, a resident of Youngsville, Louisiana, was a beloved mother to three sons: Jayce Tolivar, Jaydon “Bubba” Tolivar, and Maize Rollins. She was known for being their biggest cheerleader, especially at their basketball games. Since 2017, she had been a dedicated employee at Professional Arts Pharmacy in Lafayette, where she worked as a Patient Care Coordinator. Her colleagues remembered her for her compassionate and uplifting spirit, often leaving encouraging notes and posters to boost morale.
The community has been deeply affected by her sudden and violent death. In response to the tragedy, Professional Arts Pharmacy has established a 529 Educational Savings Plan to support the future education of her three sons, a testament to the high regard in which she was held. Funeral services for April were held at the Progressive Church in Lafayette, with arrangements handled by Kinchen Funeral Home Inc. She is survived by her three sons, her parents, two sisters, and a brother.
