Misti Shawndell Romero, a 40-year-old female, was discovered deceased on Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2022, in a business parking lot located in the 1100 block of the Evangeline Thruway in Broussard, Louisiana. The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call at approximately 2:45 a.m. and found her body.
The investigation into her death quickly led authorities to a suspect, 54-year-old Andrew DeRouen. As deputies in St.
Martin Parish were gathering information at the scene of Romero's death, they received notification from the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office with a grim update.
Deputies in the neighboring parish had located DeRouen in New Iberia, where he was found deceased from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The authorities concluded that DeRouen was the suspect in Romero's death, classifying the tragic event as a murder-suicide. No further suspects were sought in connection with this case.
