In the early evening of May 1, 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 800 block of West 70th Street in Shreveport, Louisiana. When the sounds of the shootout subsided, 17-year-old Artavious Taysean Prim, a male, lay critically wounded. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The incident marked the 24th homicide in Shreveport that year.
Prim was a senior at Woodlawn High School, just weeks away from his graduation.
The Shreveport Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. According to a witness, the incident began when a teenager with a gun allegedly started firing at three men who were inside a car. One of the men in the vehicle reportedly returned fire, striking Prim. An autopsy was ordered to determine the precise cause of death. The investigation led police to identify multiple individuals of interest.
In the course of their investigation, authorities arrested 20-year-old Bryson Turner, charging him with obstruction of justice for being uncooperative with investigators. The Shreveport Police Department also publicly identified two other men, 28-year-old Marcus Brown and 28-year-old DeAndre Daniel, as individuals they wanted to question in connection with the fatal shooting.
