Isaiah Johnson, a 20-year-old male, died after a shooting incident in Opelousas, Louisiana, on May 25, 2024.
That Saturday morning, around 6 a.m., the Opelousas Police Department received a call from Opelousas General Hospital South Campus. Hospital staff reported that a man, later identified as Johnson, had been brought to the emergency room by a private vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers were dispatched to the hospital and to the location of the shooting, a home in
the 100 block of Willard Lane. Investigators learned that Johnson was in a room with 19-year-old Kylan Malone when a firearm that Malone was holding unintentionally discharged. The single gunshot struck Johnson, causing the fatal injury.
As a result of the investigation, Kylan Malone was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and obstruction of justice. In January 2025, a St. Landry Parish grand jury handed down a formal indictment against Kylan Rahmaad Malone for negligent homicide and obstruction of justice. As of January 2025, the case was proceeding through the court system.
